SEMINAR FOR AUGUSTINE UNIVERSITY MASS COMMUNICATION STUDENTS

On Tuesday 9th of May 2023, a seminar was conducted for all the students of the Department of Mass Communication and Media Studies. The seminar was organized by 400-level students in the convocation hall at the university, and the host of the program was Miss Shona Olalere. The programme was scheduled for 8:00 AM, but due to some technical issues, we started around 9:25 it was an online seminar using the "Google Meet" application because she was not in the country.

Miss Shona started by welcoming us, we also appreciated the fact that she created time to talk to us. Moving further, we were given a summary of her biography and also the book she has published, " No Cush No Coffee". We also welcomed our head of department, Dr John Ibanga, who acknowledged the other lecturers that were around. Later, we were joined by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Christopher Odetunde.

She began the seminar by showing us some pictures on a PDF showing a graduation cap, money, family, and fashion, asking us to choose which one comes first as a student. we all agreed that the graduation cap comes first, with the question, "What does it mean to arrive". Is it to be rich, get a degree, start a family or do other things?. She gave two types of arriving Temporary arriving or sustainable success.

Here are some points she made note of to achieve your goal and also be successful:

[1] Know your focus or the goals you want to achieve (aiming for your goal to succeed).

[2] Work diligently.

[3] Never let go ( do not give up on your goals).

[4] Learn to control your time on social media. Do not let social media consume you

[5] Focus on yourself. Do not be distracted by friends.

[6] Be focused mostly in class.

[7] Know what you want.

[8] Never be rude to people either your lecturers or authorities.

[9] Develop yourself /build yourself intellectually, and spiritually.

[10] Have a journal where you write your goals and what you have achieved as the days pass by.

[11] Put God first learn to pray and also read and meditate your bible.

In conclusion, some questions were asked, like how to deal with pressure, depression, and discouragement, and how she was able to obtain her two masters. She answered those questions by surrounding herself with the right group of people, she created time for learning, making sure most of her courses did not collide with others, also there will be people there to discourage you but fill yourself with positive thoughts. Also, do not see failure and your end game but a stepping stone to improvement.
